6 Ways to be Kind to the Earth
The day we realize each of our individual actions directly impacts the beauty and future health of our planet, is a profound moment.
It’s easy to ask, “How do my actions, out of the 7 billion people on Earth, affect the planet?” However, when one person makes a change, it has an incredible ripple effect.
Today is the day that we are going to take responsibility. We don’t have to make ginormous life-impacting changes—but each of these 6 small tweaks to your daily routine will help decrease your carbon footprint and help make Mother Earth a better place to live for generations to come.
6 Ways to be Kind to the Earth
Make an achievable recycling routine
Your recycling plan needs to be achievable—or you will not follow through with it. For example, if you don’t have recycling pick-up on your street, your incentive for recycling might be pretty low. If this is the case, make a plan that will fit your lifestyle. Have a designated area of easily transportable bins that will collect recyclables for a certain amount of time. Pick a day each week or each month that you will take them in.
Plant trees
With cutting down so many forests to build up commercial areas, we need to make more of an effort to plant trees in areas that all of our communities can enjoy. Make it a biannual event to get with your neighborhood group or a local school and plant trees in areas where people can appreciate them.
Plant a home garden
Why not grow vegetables and fruits in your own backyard? It minimizes your carbon footprint by not buying produce that needs to be shipped—not to mention it’ll keep some money in your pocket! Get your kids involved so they can appreciate where their food comes from (and they’ll be more likely to eat fruits and vegetables!).
Track your impact
Use a carbon footprint calculator to find out exactly how much of an impact you’re making. This will help you narrow down where you can make changes for the biggest difference.
Ditch the ride
Going to the grocery store just down the road? Instead of getting into the car, bike or walk to the store. Take advantage of public transportation. The fuel from air travel does a lot of damage to our environment, so try buying a train ticket instead of a plane ticket.
Opt for the eco friendly grocery bag
Going to the grocery store will always be a frequent occurrence. Instead of opting for the plastic bags that end up polluting our oceans, commit to bring eco-friendly grocery bags to the store next time.
“Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.”~ Khalil Gibran
Moving forward, let’s make the conscious decision to take care of the Earth we’ve been blessed to share. It’s our responsibility to leave our beautiful planet in pristine shape for the future of humankind.
